The Royal Oak lies in East Lavant – a classic Sussex downland village, complete with flint-walled thatched cottages and a 13th century church, at the foot of the South Downs.
We’re an ideal base if you’re attending the races or motorsport events at Goodwood, which is less than ten minutes from us. Also just ten minutes away is the ancient city of Chichester; home to one of Britain’s most glorious medieval cathedrals, and the world-class Chichester Festival Theatre.
The South Downs – which became Britain’s newest National Park in 2011 – provides fantastic opportunities for walking, mountain-biking, horse-riding and other outdoor pursuits. The South Downs Way, which runs for over 100 miles from Winchester to Eastbourne, crosses the Downs a few miles north of The Royal Oak. Please find a fantastic example of a walk here. If you’re into water sports, Chichester Harbour offers some of the best sailing on the South Coast.
However you choose to spend your time in this beautiful part of the world, we’ll have great food and wine, convivial company and a snug, comfortable room waiting for you here at The Royal Oak.
